Brian Brenno While learning to blow glass in college, Brenno accidentally happened upon the hat shape. It was almost a mistake! As people responded with excitement to his hats of glass, Brenno quickly realized the universal power the hat shape had as a utilitarian item of clothing, or as an object of beauty, and even an object of power. The hat is found in all cultures; it evokes strong associations, memories and feelings that everyone understands and recognizes. Brenno's series of glass hats evolved from an interest in human interaction with familiar objects. Hats offer him an opportunity to explore the challenges of glass blowing and our relationship with everyday objects seen in a new way. Brenno was first introduced to glass blowing in 1981 while attending a stained glass class at Pilchuck Glass School in Stanwood, WA. He was hooked and has been involved with blown glass since. In 1985, Brenno received a BFA degree from California College of Arts and Crafts. For the next nine years, he worked for Dale Chihuly on his glass blowing team. During this time Brenno had the opportunity to work with some of the best glass artists in the world. In 1997, Brenno built a glass blowing studio in his grandfather's old auto repair shop on Vashon Island, WA. Artwork:
