David Kohnstamm
David Kohnstamm was born and raised in Portland. He has been interested in art since he was a young child, and has always incorporated art into his educational experiences. David attended the University of Michigan, graduating in psychology in 1991. His course work included ceramics, art history, and art therapy.
David combines the artist's eye with an environmental/recycling ethic to bring both beauty and usefulness back to distressed, discarded, vintage glass windows. David visualizes the beautiful in what others chose to throw away.
With each primitively painted window, Kohnstamm explores the old, the unusable, the antiquated, the unusual. He takes the viewer through his "looking glass" windows into a simple world of primitive landscape or bold still life. He is inspired by the work of Gregory Grennon but takes his imagery, style and recycling ethic in an entirely different direction. His work is unusual, fresh and most of all, fun.
